The Outlaw Concy Ryan is one of eight drama series competing in RTE's StoryLand competition. The public will be asked to vote for their favourite project and the one with the least amount of votes will be eliminated in each round.
The makers of The Outlaw Concy Ryan hope to emulate the success of previous winners The Hardy Bucks and Zombie Bashers.
THE STORY
The Outlaw Concy Ryan follows proud Moyhill native Concy Ryan as he struggles to preserve his way of life in the face of a new government initiative to regenerate the area. Concy has lived his whole life in Moyhill and cannot understand why the government would want to fix something that in his opinion isn’t broken.
Moyhill, a notorious housing estate on the outskirts of Limerick city, is ravaged by poverty and antisocial behaviour. But things are about to change. A new government initiative aims to regenerate the area with the provision of new and refurbished housing units, much needed infrastructure and
amenities.
In order to achieve this however, much of the existing estate will have to be demolished.
Concy Ryan, an unemployed father of ten boys and beloved husband to the heavily pregnant Attracta, fears the proposed regeneration will destroy his way of life and take away his freedom.
